Frangipani and Palm Palm Tree Bark

Fijian Bottle Palms Picture

Thanks to the excellent and acknowledged research by Dick Watling * - author of the book "Palms of the Fiji Islands" - we learn that there are about 31 species of palm to be seen growing wild in Fiji. Of these, 25 are considered to be indigenous, and six introduced. The most prevalent of the palms in Fiji, of course, is the coconut, and the most well-known is the fan palm. Many of Fiji's unique indigenous palms are apparently endangered, due to deforestation. [ * Dick Watling is the Principal and Founder of Environmental Consultants (Fiji) Ltd., Fiji's only specialist and independent environmental consultancy practice. ]

The panorama above is a close up detail of a bottle palm, photographed in Nadi, a monochromatic view forming an attractive pattern created by nature. These palms have a distinctive bulging of the trunk resembling a bottle, and are used quite often in landscaping of tropical homes and villas, as well as on many Fiji resorts and hotels.

Fiji Islands macro photography offers a world of Fiji photo possibilities ! Fiji is rich in diversity, seen in its landscapes, its people, its culture, its fauna and flora, its coral reef and beaches. Travel to the Fiji Islands and explore all that this South Pacific island paradise has to offer.
