Nadi Bay Pictures and Photos
Nadi is located on the drier western side of the main island of Viti Levu. Nadi (pronounced Nahndee) is surrounded by picturesque highlands. The Nadi River flows down from the highlands of the east and form a fertile plain upon which the town is situated. The Nadi river enters the ocean in a large protected bay - Nadi Bay - and one can see the picturesque islands of the nearby Mamanuca group and some of the islands of the Yasawa group from many vantage points in and around Nadi.
Nadi is known as the International Gateway to the Fiji Islands, as it is the location of Nadi Airport, and the airport is located right near the Bay on the right of this photo. Visitors to Fiji who arrive or depart in daylight hours therefore get a wonderful view of the Nadi plain, the Nadi Bay and the offshore islands. The panorama is taken looking north-east and provides a view of the dramatic Mt Evans range, commonly known as the Sleeping Giant Mountains, as its profile gives the appearance of a huge giant asleep on the top!
Nadi Bay has a long beach and there are small resorts and backpacker accommodation located along the ocean's edge around the Wailoaloa area with a relaxed ambience. Further round the bay can be found the larger hotels of Denarau Island (Sheraton Fiji, Westin Denarau and Sofitel Fiji) that cater for tourists and travellers to the tropical islands of Fiji who are looking for upmarket accommodation. Denarau Island is attached to the mainland by a small waterway, and also features golf courses, marina, Fiji vacation villas and Fiji residential property. |
