Nadi Beaches
Nadi is situated on an expansive bay formed by an encircling coastline from Momi in the west to Vuda in the north east. The bay is dotted with offshore island of the Mamanuca group and Yasawa group. If you travel to Fiji you usually arrive via the Nadi International Airport, which is adjacent to Nadi Bay. You may be arriving to go to other parts of Fiji, or you may be having a holiday in Nadi itself.
Nadi Bay is a sheltered bay, with no main fringing coral reef, therefore the main Wailoaloa beach is a tidal beach rather than a coral lagoon. As a result the sand is not a white sand coral beach, but a darker colour. It is a great beach for walking (flat and firm) or an impromptu game of football! Wailoaloa Beach is a very long one and is seen pictured in the panorama above, with the picturesque backdrop formed by the Sabeto Hills (Mt Evans range), also known as the Sleeping Giant Mountains.
Some of the Nadi Bay coastline is mangrove, but there are other beaches in addition to the Wailoaloa beach pictured above. Firstly, to the west, major redevelopment has resulted in the popular Denarau Island for residential as well as major tourism use. International Hotels include the Sheraton Fiji Resort, The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa, Sheraton Denarau Villas, Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa and the Fiji Beach Resort & Spa to be operated by Hilton. All have beach frontage. To the north east, one can find quite a nice beach at the Anchorage Resort, and further around the coastline just past the historic Viseisei Village and Vuda Point Marina is the popular First Landing Resort, which is located on rather a nice stretch of beach that is whiter than at Wailoaloa. The beaches of Nadi Bay face west so whichever beach you are at, you will be sure to see some wonderful sunsets !
