Suva Sunset Picture Gallery
Suva City, the capital of Fiji, is located on the southern side of the main island of Viti Levu. Uniquely located on a land peninsula, Suva has a sunrise facing coastline as well as a sunset-facing coastline. On the Eastern side one can find residential areas, the campus of the University of the South Pacific, Suva Golf Course and - further on to the north - some light industrial subdivisions. The main CBD is on the western side and shops, office blocks, hotels and the Suva Port therefore enjoy some great sunset views from the city centre.
The coastline from the City goes north, then swings round and back southward again, forming the Suva Harbour and further on the Bay of Islands at Lami. Inland from the coast are craggy peaks and hills of the inner highlands, creating a picturesque horizon from those in the City area.
Being on the windward side of Viti Levu, Suva experiences more tropical rainfall than the drier leeward side where Nadi is located. However, although it can often be rainier in Suva, the cloud formations means it does get some lovely sunsets, such as the one captured above taken from the Tanoa Plaza Hotel. |
